Writer: Pawan KaushikPawan Kaushik

Everyone loves trees and small plants in their house. It gives the house a fresh look while also making it a more lively place to be in. This is why almost all of the houses in the current times tend to keep plants in their homes. However, as per the Vastu expert in Delhi, this is not something new that people have begun to do as a trend. Plants in a home have been a tradition in our culture for millennia, where people began to keep holy and ayurvedic plants in their homes quite early.

With time, these plants began to be a part of almost everyone’s lives. Vastu Shastra dictates the presence of certain plants, trees, and herbs in the house as they bind positive energy to themselves and keep the happiness inside the house. While that is true, there are also some plant that Vastu Shastra completely advises against. This blog is a detailed analysis of what plants to keep in the house and which ones to avoid, according to Vastu Shastra.

Plants to Keep in House

  • Basil

Basil has been a part of the Indian tradition for thousands of years and holds a rather holy position in our culture. Not only has Basil, or Tulasi, been useful in Ayurvedic treatments, but our ancestors realised its importance in our health years ago. As per one of the top Vastu experts in Delhi, scientists have recently proven what our culture already knew about Basil, that it produces oxygen 24x7, which makes it a great domesticated plant. If you have a Tulsi Plant, it is best to keep it in North, North-East, or East Directions.

  • Bamboo

Bamboo is said to bring luck and prosperity to the house, with their growth signifying the growth of all the good things in the house, like the fame and the wealth that you have. A good tip will be to get the one with a yellow-tinted bark on the bamboo instead of the dar green one. And keep it in the east or southeast corner.

  • Money Plant

This is a no-brainer. Money plants are supposed to signify the money and wealth of the house, and almost all of us have had these in our homes at one point or another. They bring wealth and prosperity to the house, especially if kept in the southeast corner of the house.

  • Banana Tree

Not only good for your health, but Banana Trees are actually also good for your mental peace as well. Some parts of India even worship Banana trees as they are considered sacred in many cultures. Plant it in the northeast corner, especially if you have a backyard.

  • Neem Tree

Another tree that is a great part of our Ayurvedic Culture, Neem has a number of benefits apart from being a good antiseptic. It keeps insects away from the house, generates positivity, and keeps the happiness flowing.

Plants to Avoid Keeping in House

  • Bonsai

Bonsai may look good but these trees are considered to bring bad luck.

  • Tamarind

Tamarind Trees are supposed to be home for the evil spirits. Whether that is true or not, it is an anchor for negative energy, and thus, must be avoided in homes.

  • Dead Plants

Dead plants, or dying plants must never be kept in homes as they signify bad health and negative energy.

  • Cactus or Thorny Plants

A plant with thorns on it? Does not sound so friendly, right? Which is why they are not considered good plants to be kept in homes.

  • Cotton

Cotton plants are considered inauspicious and the complete opposite of Vastu Friendly.

So there you go, some great options on what Vastu Shastra suggests to be good plants, and some suggestions on what plants to avoid keeping in our homes. Follow these steps and you will find yourself very happy and content in your living space.
